Dr Carol A. Burke is a renowned gastroenterologist internationally recognized for her expertise in hereditary gastrointestinal cancer syndromes and colorectal neoplasia prevention. She is Director of the Section of Polyposis at the Sanford R. Weiss, MD Center for Hereditary Colorectal Neoplasia and Program Director of the Carol A. Burke MD–Sheetz Family Endowed Fellowship in Hereditary Gastrointestinal Cancer Syndromes at the Cleveland Clinic.

A past president of both the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) and the Collaborative Group of the Americas on Inherited Gastrointestinal Cancer, Dr Carol previously served as Vice-Chair of the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at the Cleveland Clinic, with joint appointments in the Taussig Cancer Center and Department of Colorectal Surgery.

Her research, funded by the NCI, NIH, USDA, and industry, has advanced the understanding and management of hereditary cancer syndromes. Among numerous accolades, she received the ACG Berk/Fise Clinical Achievement Award (2024) and the Collaborative Group Lifetime Achievement Award (2020).

Dr Carol has authored over 290 peer-reviewed publications, contributed to national and international clinical guidelines, and remains a dedicated mentor and educator, shaping the next generation of clinicians and researchers in gastroenterology.
