A/Prof Dan Buchanan leads the Colorectal Oncogenomics Group within the Department of Clinical Pathology and Collaborative Centre for Genomic Cancer Medicine at the University of Melbourne, based at the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre. His work focuses on translating genomic discoveries into clinical care, supported by his role at the Royal Melbourne Hospital Genomic Medicine and Family Cancer Centre and membership on the Australian eviQ Cancer Genetics Reference Committee.
He serves on the International Society for Gastrointestinal Hereditary Tumours (InSiGHT) Council, and the Executive Committees of HGSA and GESA, and is a spokesperson for Bowel Cancer Australia.
A/Prof Buchanan is Principal Investigator of the International Genetics of Colonic Polyposis Study, multi-PI of the NIH-funded Colorectal Cancer Family Registry, and leads the NHMRC-funded ANGELS study on early-onset colorectal cancer. His research integrates multi-omic and molecular pathology approaches to improve diagnosis and understanding of hereditary and early-onset colorectal cancer. He is a recipient of the University of Melbourne Dame Kate Campbell Fellowship for research excellence.
